DESCRIPTION:On May 24\, the Museum will host a lecture by Douglas T. Bates III\, about his father's role in the War Crime Trials which tried 41 Germans for their involvement with the Dachau Camp. This lecture series parallels our traveling exhibit "Never Forget: An Introduction to the Holocaust" which will be on display at the Museum through May 31. We hope to see you there! The Clement Railroad Hotel Museum in Dickson Tennessee is excited to announce\, as part of our Lectureship Series\, "Lt. Colonel Douglas T. Bates II- The Dachau War Crime Trials". This presentation is scheduled for May 24\, 2018 at 5:30 pm and presented by the son of Lt. Colonel Bates\, Douglas T. Bates III. Hitler opened his first concentration camp in the town of Dachau\, just north of Munich\, Germany\, in 1933. Douglas T. Bates II graduated from Cumberland University in 1933 and began a law practice in Centerville\, Tennessee. World War II came and he rose through the ranks to become a Lieutenant Colonel in the Field Artillery. After seeing 11 months of combat in France and Germany\, after VE Day\, he was assigned as chief defense counsel for 40 German soldiers on trial for their part in the Dachau Camp. He threw himself into this duty with great vigor considering it an obligation of duty just as his time in combat had been. The Clement Railroad Hotel Museum is also currently hosting a temporary exhibit in parallel to this Lecture\, "Never Forget- An Introduction to the Holocaust" through May 31.
